Unique Signs For Marketing: Out-Of-The-Box Business Signs

When you look at commercial signage, you find that many of them look the same. They're crafted from the same materials, they use much of the same lighting, and they all kind of run together. I decided that there had to be a better way to market a business. That's when I started looking into how to do custom signs made from things like hand-crafted metal, reclaimed wood, and similar types of materials. I created this site to share my signage and marketing tips that I've learned in the hopes that other business owners will see how easy it is to step outside the box.

Tips For Printing Custom Vinyl Advertising Banners For Your Business

by Jordan Lopez

If you want to have some custom vinyl banners printed to advertise your business to people driving by, then these tips will help you order the most effective banners:

Tip: Understand the Purpose of Your Banners

When you are designing advertising banners, it is important that you keep in mind the main purpose the banners will serve. Advertising banners suit the sole purpose of getting people's attention quickly and conveying an instant message. The banners are not decorations for your business. For this reason, you should avoid the common mistake of designing your banners in a decorative manner over one that sends a quick message to your customers and potential customers.

Tip: Determine the Hanging Locations of Banners Before Ordering

Also before you order your new vinyl banners, you need to know exactly where you will be hanging them on your building. Knowing the hanging locations allows you to determine the correct size, color, and font you should use when designing the banners.

Tip: Use a Maximum of Three Colors

The purpose of your vinyl advertising banners is to quickly grab your customer's attention and convey a quick message. If you use more than three colors on your banners, then the message gets harder to instantly see and your customers will ignore your banners. For this reason, you should use no more than three colors on your banner. For maximum effect, many people choose to use white, black, and one bright color such as yellow, orange, or red.

Tip: Use as Few Words as Possible to Get Your Message Across

Your business's advertising banners should contain no more than two or three words and they should be printed in an easy-to-read, bold font. If you use too many words or a complicated font, then customers cannot quickly get the message you are trying to convey. For example, if you are having a furniture clearance sale, you should use the words "clearance sale" on your banner and a simple furniture graphic so customers can quickly see you are clearing out furniture pieces.

Tip: Use Simplistic Graphics on Your Banners

Finally, all of the graphics you put on your new custom vinyl advertising banners should be simple to understand in a quick glance. As with the previous example, a graphic of a chair should be used to represent "furniture" versus a more complicated graphic such as a dining room table with people sitting around it. Your goal is to have people driving by quickly see the chair and have their brains translate that image into "furniture".
