When you look at commercial signage, you find that many of them look the same. They're crafted from the same materials, they use much of the same lighting, and they all kind of run together. I decided that there had to be a better way to market a business. That's when I started looking into how to do custom signs made from things like hand-crafted metal, reclaimed wood, and similar types of materials. I created this site to share my signage and marketing tips that I've learned in the hopes that other business owners will see how easy it is to step outside the box.
As a business owner, you might already know that there are various types of signs out there that you can purchase. One popular choice is to have vinyl decals made by a custom sign company for your storefront. These are a few situations in which these can actually be the best choice for advertising:
1. Businesses That Lease Their Building
If you lease the building that your business is located in, you may not want to purchase a lot of permanent signage. Certain types of signs that are displayed can permanently change the structure, which might be a violation of your lease. Additionally, buying more permanent signs and having them installed could mean that you have to go through the hassle and cost of having them moved or replaced if your business changes to another building. If you use vinyl decals, however, you can use them on your storefront without them causing any damage. Then, if your business changes locations, you can always easily take them down, bring them with you and use them at your next location.
2. Companies That Are on a Budget
Another situation in which vinyl decals can be a good advertising option is when your business is on a budget. For example, if you are just opening up a new business, you might have spent a lot of your budget on other start-up costs, and you may not have a ton leftover for expensive signage. For now, you can use window decals to advertise your business. Then, later, you can have permanent signs made when your business starts bringing in a little more money. Then, you won't have to spend what is left of your startup capital on signs; instead, you can keep it for a rainy day or spend it on other important start-up costs.
3. Businesses That Are Advertising Things That Change
In some situations, you might find yourself advertising things that might change in the future. For example, you probably wouldn't want to spend a ton of money buying a custom-made sign for a sale that is only going to be going on for a few weeks. To let people know about this sale, however, it can be worth it to buy affordable vinyl decals that can easily be put up and then removed when the sale is over. Decals can also be great for things like advertising your store hours since you might choose to tweak them later on when the seasons change or when you get a better idea of the hours during which your business is the busiest.
